Annual educational excursion is arranged by the departments of Botany, Zoology, Geography, Journalism and Physical Education following the course curriculum of the university. Some short tours are organized by some other departments as well. These excursions help students to acquire knowledge of the curriculum and enable them to be familiar with the social, economic and cultural life of the people of our country.
Student’s health insurance is provided with New India Assurance Company with an annual premium of Rs. 10 per students which covers medical expenses up to Rs. 20,000. Apart from that a staff health insurance plan has also been adopted with a benefit up to Rs. 1,00,000.
The college provides financial assistance to the economically weaker students in the form of full or partial concession in fees. Substantial financial assistance is given to the poor and meritorious students from the Students’ Welfare Fund as well.
The Placement cell of the college consists of faculty members, professional personalities and student volunteers. The Placement Cell coordinates the activities regarding career counseling and campus recruitment. The Cell maintains liaison with industries, corporates, MNCs etc. to facilitate practical training and campus interviews for the placement of students in prestigious companies.
Following the UGC directives the college has set up a cell for Gender Sensitization and Prevention of Sexual Harassment in College. Awareness and counseling programs are regularly taken up by the cell since its inceptionin 2007.
The Students’ Grievance Redressal Cell has been formed in 2003-04 and is successfully functioning since inception. Any complain (on academics and infrastructure) received from the students is placed before the Cell. The Grievance Cell has provided a platform for the students to easily communicate their complaints to the proper authority for redressal.
Mushroom cultivation requires no land and can be grown in the houses in a very short cultivation period. Looking on the feasibility of cultivation of this crop, Department of Botany is all set to start this course to train up willing people from the locality for cultivation of edible mushroom. Many farmers, unemployed youths and women may adopt this activity as a profession and can earn a handsome income.
Geographic Information Systems includes mapping software and its application with remote sensing, land surveying, aerial photography and tools that can be implemented with GIS software. The college has introduced GIS as a short-term training course in the college in 2008. This will help the students to view, understand, question, interpret, and visualize data in many ways that reveal relationships, patterns, and trends in the form of maps, globes, reports, and charts.
